It appears Anyconnect automatically updates the MTU, so when I would reduce the MTU, Anyconnect would automatically pick a lower value than what I set. A friend at work has confirmed this on a similar company laptop configuration with his AT&T hotspot on the same corporate VPN. I have another personal, paid VPN service (similar to Nord VPN) that works fine. When VPN is off, I have excellent, sustained transfer rates and good ping times. This makes remote desktop nearly unusable, but the issue occurs with any VPN traffic. On some occasions the VPN will also disconnect. I can connect to the VPN no problem and then use the connection for a minute or so, but then then transfer rates periodically drop to zero.
